Urban is excited to be part of Fairmount Water Works' $7.5 million Floating Water Workshop, a groundbreaking initiative that will transform the waters between Philadelphia’s Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers.
The 5,400-SF floating structure, envisioned by Habitheque Inc., will serve as an educational and cultural hub, docking half the year at the Independence Seaport Museum and the other half near the historic Fairmount Water Works. The project aims to provide the community with a space for art, science, and environmental education.
Urban is providing permitting and marine structural design services to support the facility’s development. As the project progresses, Urban will also contribute through construction administration and inspection, ensuring the successful delivery of this transformative space.
Titled “Floating Water Workshop: The Art of Science In Motion,” the space will function as:
The project is a collaborative effort led by Fairmount Water Works, with support from 14 partners, including the Academy of Natural Sciences at Drexel University, Water Center at Penn, Delaware River Waterfront Corporation, and Independence Seaport Museum.
As the Floating Water Workshop begins to take shape, Urban is excited to see how it will serve as a dynamic space for learning, creativity, and fostering environmental consciousness in the Philadelphia community.
