To assistance with environmental compliance in Pennsylvania, Urban provided training for PennDOT’s Strategic Environmental Management Program (SEMP) for over a decade. SEMP follows PennDOT’s Green Plan Policy and is an environmental management system that helps employees and business partners protect the environment; conserve resources; and comply with environmental laws and regulations.

Urban worked directly with PennDOT’s maintenance operations program to develop training and roll-out SEMP to district maintenance personnel as a part of their everyday maintenance practices. The firm developed PennDOT’s SEMP training program to fit the department’s needs and practices.

Training included an introduction of SEMP; procedures to improve environmental compliance; protocols for increasing environmental awareness and competency; efficient methods for documenting and communicating procedures; and general EMS implementation guidelines. Urban also provided third party auditing services in both regulatory compliance issues and SEMP related conformance issues.
