Supporting the City of Philadelphia’s Vision Zero goals, the American Street Streetscape will make it safer and easier for pedestrians to cross the street and provide a protected bicycle lane.
The City of Philadelphia is transforming a two-mile stretch of American Street into a streetscape corridor with improved access for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists. This $26.4 million project will convert the street from two lanes in each direction to one lane in each direction with a protected bicycle lane. Design features include a new median with a bioswale; rehabilitated sidewalks with extensions at intersections; and new street trees, lighting, pavement marking, and signs. An abandoned railroad track will also be removed.
The project is divided into three sections. Urban is providing office engineering and construction inspection services. We have focused on preparing PennDOT documentation on behalf of the Philadelphia Water Department, as well as backup sketches and quantity verifications.
