Growing up, Justin Gibbons always enjoyed art and architecture. After enrolling at West Virginia University as an undecided freshman, he received a suggestion that his high SAT score in math might lead him to excel in civil engineering, so he decided to give it a try. Halfway through his freshmen year, Justin was confident he had made the right choice. “I hadn’t realized my math skills, and even my art skills, were conducive to creative problem solving,” he says.

Justin has seen success working with contractors to solve infrastructure challenges efficiently and safely. He always works in accordance with applicable specifications that require both a technical understanding and social skills. “Every project is unique and can have different folks involved with different levels of experience, which challenges you to be on top of your game to succeed,” he says. “I love the challenge of meeting the needs of our clients and working as a team to exceed expectations. The anticipation of what projects are coming up, who is available with the skills needed, how we can train them to be ready, studying plans, building staff by finding new talent and learning something new every day – it keeps me energized.”

His work has not gone unnoticed. PennDOT District 1-0 recognized Justin with an award of appreciation for, “valuable contributions and dedication to the District through construction inspection duties.” He was also asked to join ACEC/PA’s construction services subcommittee. This committee represents thousands of consultant construction inspectors in Pennsylvania and fields concerns regarding training, workforce development, minimum experience and training requirements, invoicing, procurement, and more. Justin has now served multiple terms for the group.

In his free time, Justin is a music enthusiast. He loves going to concerts, and every year, he makes about 30 hours’ worth of playlists on Spotify. You can check them out here. Every week, he plays keyboard or drums for two services at his local church. Justin also has enthusiasm for volunteering and leads the church youth group on Sundays throughout the school year with his wife. They regularly participate in volunteer activities such as Operation Christmas Child, preparing meals and care packages for families, visiting nursing homes and helping the elderly with yardwork, and participating in Global Youth Service Day. “The smiles and the impact that can be made from simply donating time and genuine care are amazing,” Justin says.
