Chuck King, PE, is a distinguished engineering executive with more than 40 years of experience leading national AEC firms. As a nationally recognized leader, Mr. King has successfully built technical excellence, recruited competent staff, developed new business, maintained client relations, and led several high-profile complex infrastructure projects.
Mr. King joined Urban in 2011. During this time, he successfully grew the Urban Engineers' New York City office from a small staff serving as a Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Project Management Oversight Consultant (PMOC) to a major competitor in the New York City market. He achieved this by winning contract awards from major public clients, including the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ), the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), the New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT), the Staten Island Ferry, and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY), among others. He now manages Urban’s Rail and Transit Department, which has a staff of over 50, serving NJ TRANSIT, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT), the National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak), the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and others.
Before joining Urban, Mr. King served as a business development executive for a major national consulting engineering company where he secured professional service awards exceeding $300 million, on such endeavors including the design of the Oakland Bay Bridge Replacement in San Francisco, the George Washington Bridge Bus Station Program Management in Manhattan, the design of the Redecking of the Bronx Whitestone Bridge, and the MTA NYC Engineering Indefinite Quantity Delivery and Construction Management for the Delta Terminal at LaGuardia Airport.
His experience as a project executive and manager on engineering and construction programs includes projects such as the $2 billion Reconstruction of the World Trade Center PATH Station in New York City, NYPD’s $200 million E911 Facility in Brooklyn, Amtrak’s $75 million Central Control Facility in Manhattan, the $800 million Replacement of Market Street Elevated Line for SEPTA in Philadelphia, Program Management of the $200 million State of Good Repair Project for New Jersey Transit, and Construction Management of the $500 million Delco Lead and County Yard Improvements for New Jersey Transit.
Mr. King is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a Master of Science in Civil Engineering and a Bachelor of Fine Arts. He is a Registered Structural Engineer in Illinois and holds a Professional Engineer license in five states. Mr. King is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). He served as Committee Chairman for the Dormitory Authority for the State of New York (DASNY) and was a member of the Editorial Board of STRUCTURE magazine from 2019 to 2024.
