Urban Engineers is pleased to announce that it has been honored with a Diamond Award by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania (ACEC/PA) for its work on the Easton Road Roundabouts Saftey Improvements project. This award highlights Urban's commitment to enhancing transportation infrastructure, focusing on safety, innovation, and community engagement.

The Easton Road Roundabouts project was initiated to address traffic congestion and improve safety at the complex intersection of Easton Road and New Britain Road/Sauerman Road in Doylestown Township, PA. In collaboration with PennDOT District 6-0, our team employed modern design strategies and actively engaged with local stakeholders to develop a solution that meets both current and future needs.

The design features two single-lane roundabouts, which effectively reduce traffic speeds and increase accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists. Utilizing PennDOT's GIS platforms, Urban identified the intersection as a priority area due to its history of accidents. Urban led the design process from the initial concept to completion, coordinating closely with local agencies and community members to ensure that the project addressed a mixed range of needs.

A key feature is the incorporation of dumbbell roundabouts, which improve safety by slowing traffic and enhancing mobility. The project also included accelerated utility work, which helped complete it 19 months ahead of schedule and minimized disruption to the local community.

Additional improvements include ADA-compliant sidewalks, bicycle facilities, upgraded SEPTA bus stops, better lighting, and stormwater management systems to create a more accessible environment for all road users.
