The Urban Land Institute (ULI) announces The Chestnut at University City and The Penn/Drexel Newman Center as the Large Scale category winner for the 2023 Awards for Excellence. The project was one of 13 finalists selected by a national jury of ULI members who evaluated a record number of applications.
Urban Engineers provided land surveying, geotechnical, and site/land development engineering design services, including stormwater management and infrastructure design guidelines to meet city requirements. Urban also conducted a Traffic Impact Assessment.
The project is a series of adjacent institutionally owned parcels and buildings at the heart of Philadelphia’s University City to create the new Penn/Drexel Newman Center and The Chestnut at University City. The 1.36-acre complex project involved a unity-of-use site redevelopment that redefined the buildings and open spaces.
The project is the product of an institutional/private partnership between the multi-pronged institutional entities: the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, the Parish of St. Agatha and St. James, and the private developer, EQT Exeter.
