Katherine Markowitz, Named Environmental Services Department Manager at Urban Engineers

Urban has promoted Katherine (Katie) Markowitz to Environmental Services Department Manager. In this new role, Ms. Markowitz will oversee the department's project delivery, operations, staff development, business strategy, and overall growth.

“I am thrilled to transition from Senior Environmental Project Manager to Department Manager at Urban,” said Markowitz. “With a talented environmental team and a clear vision for the future, I look forward to leading our department as we expand our market presence and deliver innovative and meaningful environmental solutions.”

With more than 12 years of experience, Ms. Markowitz is well-versed in supporting environmental and conservation projects nationwide. She has comprehensive knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations; her extensive NEPA expertise will further strengthen Urban’s Environmental Services Department and enhance capabilities provided for transportation and infrastructure projects.

Ms. Markowitz has served as a trusted project manager for various clients, including the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC), Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), and the City of Philadelphia. She has prepared and managed NEPA documentation for clients, including the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), PTC, PennDOT, and West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH).

“Since joining Urban, Katie has consistently brought commitment and drive to our Environmental Services Department and the clients we serve,” said Urban’s Angelo Waters, PE, LEED AP, Senior Vice President and Integrated Engineering Services Business Unit Director. “I have no doubt Katie will lead the department to even greater heights, delivering thoughtful, high-quality solutions for our clients and their projects.”

Ms. Markowitz earned her MBA from Quinnipiac University and a Bachelor of Science in Marine and Environmental Biology and Policy from Monmouth University. She serves on the Board of Directors for ASHE Delaware Valley and is an active member of WTS Philadelphia, where she chairs the Emerging Leaders Program.
