James A. Bilella, II, PE, Joins Urban's Board of Directors

James A. Bilella, II, PE, Urban’s President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), has been elected to the firm’s Board of Directors. Mr. Bilella, who has been with Urban for more than 30 years, joins the Board as Urban celebrates its 66th anniversary and continues to build on its longstanding commitment to clients, employees, and the communities it serves.

“Jim brings an exceptional experience and thorough understanding of what makes Urban successful,” said Dianne Semingson, Chair of the Board of Directors at Urban. “Having spent more than three decades growing his career with Urban, Jim understands the firm’s clients, people, culture, and breadth of expertise that sets Urban apart. His perspective will continue to be valuable as the latest addition to the Board.”

Mr. Bilella’s career at Urban has spanned more than 30 years, including leadership roles across several service areas. From his start as a construction inspector on the New Jersey Turnpike, Mr. Bilella moved into traffic, intelligent transportation systems, and streetscape design, including significant services to the City of Philadelphia. He was instrumental in establishing Urban’s Streetscape Department and later led the transition and integration of Marvin Waxman Consulting Engineers, a 30-person MEP firm Urban acquired in the early 2000s. Most recently, he served as Vice President and Market Leader for Rail and Transit, leading complex infrastructure and facilities projects across light rail, heavy rail, subway, and other public transportation systems.

“I have been fortunate to spend more than thirty years of my career at Urban, and I’ve seen firsthand what makes this company special,” Bilella said. “Our success has always been driven by the talent, dedication, and relationships of our people. I’m honored to join the Board and contribute to Urban’s continued growth as we build on the strong foundation established over the past 65 years.”

Mr. Bilella holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Drexel University and is a licensed Professional Engineer in 38 states. He serves on the Board of Directors for Historical Fort Mifflin in Philadelphia and has been actively involved in numerous industry organizations throughout his career.
