Urban Engineers is pleased to announce its recent recognition at the Delaware Valley American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) awards dinner. Urban received the 2023 Project of the Year (over $20M) award for construction management services for the PennDOT I-95 Section BS1 project. Nick Loberto, Construction Engineer, and Lou Marraffino, Construction Manager for the project, represented Urban at the event and accepted the award. Urban thanks ASHE for this recognition.

Urban provided construction management services to PennDOT District 6-0 for the $80 million I-95 BS1 project. The project focused on reconstructing 2.9 miles of I-95 and SR 1007 (Tacony Street) in Northeast Philadelphia.

Key aspects of the project included replacing two single-span bridges carrying I-95 over Van Kirk Street and Comly Street, constructing five retaining walls, installing a pile-supported 78" diameter storm sewer, and replacing the storm sewer outfall to the Delaware River at Levick Street.

Under Tom Kerins, VP, Deputy General Manager for Urban Construction Services, the team, including Lou Marraffino, Nora Kerins, and Nick Loberto, PE, demonstrated expertise and dedication throughout the project lifecycle. Urban's sub-consultant, SP Engineering, represented by Matt Poyner, played an integral role in the project's success.

"We are honored to receive this award from ASHE, recognizing our commitment to delivering exceptional construction management services," said Tom Kerins. "This achievement reflects the dedication and expertise of our entire team, whose collaborative efforts were instrumental in completing the I-95 Section BS1 project."

ASHE's mission is to provide a forum for members and partners of the highway industry in the Delaware Valley to promote a safe, efficient, and sustainable highway system through education, innovation, and fellowship.
