Urban was pleased to celebrate the opening of the brand-new, state-of-the-art Terminal B Arrivals and Departures Hall at LaGuardia Airport. The terminal is the biggest milestone to date in the airport's ongoing $8 billion transformation. The project is one of the largest public-private partnerships in aviation history, and Urban was pleased to contribute to the report for Terminal B.
“We would like to congratulate the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and everyone at LaGuardia, on the opening of Terminal B,” said Bill Thomsen, PE, the president of Urban Engineers of New York, D.P.C. “Urban is excited to join in the celebration of the biggest milestone in the airport’s rebuild project to date!”
“It has been an honor to partner with the Port Authority in their on-going transformation efforts at LaGuardia,” said Brian Terbush, PE, an Urban vice president for construction management and program manager of the Delta Airfield Reconfiguration Program. “The authority and all of their partners should be very proud of the work they put into their latest achievement.”
The project includes the demolition and replacement of every terminal and concourse except for the historically landmarked Marine Air Terminal. The spacious, 850,000-square-foot, four-story Terminal B Arrivals and Departures Hall provides New York's travelers with a 21st century airport experience that includes local concessions, large, modern restrooms and a New York-inspired shopping district. The new Arrivals and Departures Hall also showcases permanent public art installations curated by the Public Art Fund, enhancing the passenger experience and underscoring New York's global position as a beacon for arts and culture.
The new hall was opened with advanced security and COVID-19 protocols in place. "A Whole New LGA" will eventually comprise 72 new gates across six concourses; two expansive new terminal arrivals and departures halls connected by a central hall and New AirTrain LGA; and 13.7 miles of new roadway network. Urban has been performing construction management and construction inspection for the project.
