As a Practice Leader, Angelo J. Waters, PE, LEED AP, oversees the firm’s environmental practice.

Angelo takes pride in transforming blighted properties and aging infrastructure into green hubs that revitalize neighborhoods, spur economic development, and connect culturally diverse communities. One of his current projects is the redevelopment of Philadelphia’s Reading Viaduct (below) with the Center City District. Like the Promenade Planteé in Paris and the Chelsea High-Line in New York City, the Reading Viaduct is envisioned to become the next great public space for Philadelphia. Angelo has served as the environmental engineer and project manager for the project since its preliminary stages in 2004. The Center City District has chosen Urban to provide design services, thanks to Angelo’s ability to understand the vision for the project and deliver above expectations.

When he is not transforming the everyday landscape, Angelo gets involved with his community. As part of an initiative by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Angelo was given the opportunity to provide Kindergarten through 12th-grade student outreach on topics of civil and environmental engineering, a program that reached over 1,300 students.  He is also a 40 under 40 Philadelphia Business Journal Honoree (2013) and received the 2015 Environmental Engineer of Year Award from the Philadelphia Chapter of ASCE.

A Registered Professional Engineer in 5 states and LEED AP, Angelo earned his Master’s in Engineering Management and Bachelor’s in Environmental Engineering from Drexel University. He is currently the Vice President of the Philadelphia Section ASCE and a member of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME).
