Abbey Gancz, PE, LEED AP, has more inspiration than a motivational speaker’s handbook.

  • Never stop learning and improving yourself
  • Uphold high quality for each and every project
  • Personal satisfaction in all areas of life
  • One day at a time
  • Focus on things within my control; let go of the rest

But for anyone who knows Abbey, the diligent Highway Engineer with a passion for her craft and an insatiable quest for training and knowledge, this is not a surprise.

Abbey joined Urban in 2007 after graduating from Drexel University and immediately looked for growth. Professionally, Abbey has worked on some of Philadelphia’s most important projects, including the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and the ARLE Funded Citywide Intersection Improvements. As Lead Highway Designer on the Citywide Intersection Improvements for the Department of Streets, Abbey is most excited the project has improved safety at six intersections with additional intersections in design. She is also particularly proud of the team’s ability to work on a fast-track schedule and coordinate between the numerous stakeholders, including the City, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, and utility companies among others.

It’s not all work for Abbey. She considers having a baby her best decision, likes to hit the gym to lift weights, and enjoys crafting. But one of her true passions is serving others. Abbey is an active member of the Scholarship Committee of the Philadelphia Engineering Foundation (PEF); a WTS member on the Scholarship and Membership Committees; and, most recently, became an Instructor for Urban’s Training Institute. Her first course, offered to internal and external professionals, is ‘Curb Ramp Implementation and Design’.

"Urban," says Abbey, "invests in my development and in turn, I invest myself in Urban."
