A native of Bel Air, Maryland, Kirsten has dreamed of becoming an engineer and attending Drexel University since age five. Lucky for her five-year-old self, Kirsten has earned a dual undergraduate degree in civil engineering and architectural engineering from Drexel, which gives her a diverse background to bring to her aviation designs. Now an engineering graduate in our aviation department, Kirsten collaborates with a variety of design subconsultants and airport staff on a daily basis for a handful of our airports contracts. Kirsten’s favorite project that she is currently working on is the Runway 27L Extension project at Philadelphia International Airport, with her mentors, Dale Russell and Dave Benner, both from Urban’s aviation practice. Other airport experience for Kirsten includes a diverse mix between design, management and construction oversight for airports such as Trenton-Mercer, College Park, and Niagara Falls International Airport Air Reserve Station.
Kirsten’s favorite words to live by, “just keep swimming,” are a personal reminder to always stay positive, but they also reflect the non-stop energy she exudes between her involvement with multiple organizations like WTS, ASCE, Engineers Club, and Urban’s UYMF; her daily gym, yoga, and dance classes; and her love for traveling to foreign countries. Her involvement in so many activities allows her to meet new people, which she attributes to getting involved in as much as possible – after all, Kirsten is a firm believer that everyone you meet has something to teach you.
