About the City of Poughkeepsie Bus Transit Hub
The Hudson River Corridor is a densely populated region, home to numerous historic cities in need of revitalization. To bolster business and improve mobility, the Poughkeepsie-Dutchess County Transportation Council identified an opportunity to revamp a bus transit hub in the City of Poughkeepsie that serves as the most key node of bus transit services for the corridor. This $1.2 million project, funded by the Federal Transit Administration through an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Grant, began construction in May 2013 and was completed in November 2013.

The new bus transit hub creates a one-way bus loop to accommodate buses for off-street loading and unloading of passengers. The Hub delivers:

  • efficient, off-street access to buses
  • enhanced customer comfort and convenience
  • access to transit information
  • centralized intermodal transfers
  • landscaping and sidewalk improvements
  • improved vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle access
  • safer and more secure connections

Furthermore, the new bus transit hub enhances the mobility of students, business professionals, and residents, and promotes economic development in the city and throughout Dutchess County. It also improves transportation connections for Metro-North and Amtrak, commuter and intercity rail services, and consolidates bus transfers for customers of the City of Poughkeepsie Transit, Dutchess County LOOP, and Ulster County Area Transit for about 150 buses serving the region daily.
