Urban won the Digital Magazine Category of this year’s Society of Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) Marketing and Communications Awards.

The firm’s entry, Excellence, is a quarterly digital publication targeted for both internal and external audiences. More than just corporate goings-on, the magazine provides substantial and informative content about Urban’s clients, and the engineering industry as a whole.

Urban was also recognized with a second place finish in the Retention and Recruitment Category with Faces of Formulating Excellence®, and an honorable mention in the Digital Holiday Piece with the video campaign,From Our Family to Yours, Happy Holidays! All of Urban’s entries were created by the firm’s in-house marketing/communications team. This is the second year that Urban competed in the SMPS Marketing Communications Awards, having finished second in the Direct Mail Category in 2013.

The recipients of the 2014 Marketing Communications Awards were revealed during the SMPS Awards Gala on July 31 in San Antonio during Build Business, the association’s annual conference. The SMPS Marketing Communications Awards recognize the individuals and teams who create outstanding communication vehicles for architectural, engineering, design, and construction firms. This is the only awards program that highlights the critical role and immense value marketing professionals bring to the design and building industry.

Open to SMPS members and nonmembers, the MCA program offers professional services firms an opportunity to showcase their best marketing efforts each year and to receive feedback from a jury of experts representing various roles in the A/E/C industry, including technical professionals and clients. This year, more than 60 jurors and 10 volunteers gathered in April at the offices of Wallace Engineering in Tulsa, OK, to evaluate the program entries.
