Urban Engineers (Urban) is collaborating with US Airways and the Sheward Partnership to bring the success story of US Airways’ LEED® Silver Ground Service Equipment (GSE) Facility to the annual Greenbuild International Conference and Expo in Philadelphia. Greenbuild is the world’s largest conference and expo dedicated to green building. This year, it is expected to attract 30,000 industry leaders, experts, and frontline professionals dedicated to sustainable building.

The GSE presentation is one stop on a full day of tours on November 18th  with the theme “Philadelphia: Manufacturing Center for the World.” Leading this tour on Urban’s behalf are Jim Bilella, PE, Vice President and Director of Building Systems; John DiValentino, Jr. PE, LEED® AP, Deputy Director of Facilities Construction Management; and Adam Shelly, LEED® AP BD+C, Sustainability Project Manager.

US Airways’ GSE Facility at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) set the precedent in sustainability for the GSE industry and the airport. The project began as a concept to improve economic efficiency and became a comprehensive, environmentally friendly solution contributing to PHL’s green initiative. The 57,220-SF repair and maintenance facility is located in Cargo City, directly south of the airport terminal and adjacent to the airfield. It enables US Airways to reduce ground fleet down time and decrease baggage delivery times, supporting the airline’s efforts toward better operational efficiency for its 435 daily flights.
