“Work hard, play hard. There is plenty of time to sleep when you are gone.”

These are Brian TerBush’s words to live by, and it makes sense. This mindset is what makes it possible to be a senior project manager at Urban while also completing his dive master certification for scuba diving. You can do both, and Brian does it all. He graduated from Manhattan College with a bachelor’s in electrical engineering, went on to earn an MBA in management from Adelphi University, and finally passed the Professional Engineer’s exam in New York. Now, as an Urban team member, you can catch Brian at the gym at 4:00 am before taking the train into the office and spending the day working on construction management and special inspection projects. It’s his favorite aspects of what he does – solving challenges, making progress, and eliminating road blocks – that makes him excited to put in so much effort every day.

Brian doesn’t like to procrastinate or harp on the past, but always lives for today. He’s dependable, which is why you can trust him to coordinate the different moving parts of the projects he is working on. He can also be trusted to be a mentor to younger employees, who he wants to help excel. His experience being a mentor comes from raising two sons with his wife, Dawn, who are both now software engineers with degrees from MIT and Johns Hopkins, respectively. He could not be more proud of them.

Brian is involved in many organizations, including the Construction Management Association of America, National Society of Professional Engineers, American Society for Quality, and the Metropolitan Railway Club, to name a few. For the future, he has a lot more goals. He wants to become a dive instructor and can see himself managing a discipline at the firm, though he does dream of someday opening a scuba diving and water sports business on the water. If there’s anyone you can expect to accomplish all that he sets his mind to, you can certainly expect it from Brian.
