Jennifer Waters, PE, LEED® AP, has made it her mission to encourage women to choose engineering as a fulfilling career. Jennifer served as Vice President of the Society of Women Engineers, Philadelphia Section, for 3 years (2012-2015), where she developed and coordinated programs that encourage students of all ages to explore engineering careers. Additionally, she oversaw the effort to provide scholarships to women majoring in engineering or science at local schools. Since 2007, Jennifer has been co-chair of Urban’s Women’s Professional Network, an organization whose mission is “to provide professional guidance to all women within Urban through mentoring and networking.”
Not only is Jennifer a leader in her support of women in the industry, she is an expert environmental and sustainability engineer with more than ten years of diverse experience. Jennifer, in collaboration with Weston Solutions and Johnson Controls, Inc., participated in a sustainability study at the Delaware River Port Authority, Philadelphia Regional Port Authority, and South Jersey Port Corporation facilities to identify sustainability strategies and greening initiatives for the agencies to address environmental impacts resulting from their operations. This “green ports initiative” has assisted these agencies in becoming industry leaders in sustainability. Additionally, she envisions the study to “serve as a model of sustainability for other businesses, schools, and government facilities.” To help fulfill this vision, Jennifer is currently serving on her local township’s Environmental Advisory Committee.
