So says the League of American Bicyclists, who have named Urban Engineers (Urban) a Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) at the Bronze Level. Achieving this recognition required that Urban demonstrate a significant investment in encouraging its employees to use bicycles as a form of transportation.

With the recent announcement of 63 new BFBs in 44 states and Washington, D.C., Urban joins a visionary group of more than 500 local businesses, government agencies, and Fortune 500 companies across the United States that are transforming the American workplace.

“More and more business leaders are realizing that bicycling is a simple and cost-effective way to move toward a more productive company,” said Andy Clarke, President of the League of American Bicyclists. “Promoting healthy transportation is increasingly attractive to employers and prospective employees – and it’s moving America toward a more sustainable future.”

Urban encourages bicycling as an easy option for transportation and provides amenities such as gated bike parking, locker rooms, and a bike share program, which has been in place for more than a year. Moving forward, Urban will have access to a variety of free tools and technical assistance from the League to become even more bicycle-friendly.

“In applying to achieve designation as a Bicycle Friendly Business, it was exciting to see how many items we were able to check off the list,” Urban’s Bicycle Committee member Patrick Williams, PE, LEED® AP said. “Through this process, the League of American Bicyclists has given powerful insight as to how Urban can improve its education, support, and overall awareness of bicycling.”
