Urban is excited to announce it will be partnering with the Glen Foerd estate to create a new boat access point and pathways helping to connect the Poquessing Creek and Delaware River to the Circuit trail network. The project is being funded through an award from the William Penn Foundation.
Urban will be providing a wide-array of services for the project, including an environmental site assessment, geotechnical analysis, land surveying, and designing a new kayak dock. The firm will also design lighting and fencing for a new pathway, apply for environmental permits for dock construction, and provide construction cost estimating services.
The Circuit, a vast regional network of hundreds of miles of multi-use trails, connects local communities, providing endless opportunities for recreating and commuting. To connect trail users to Philadelphia's waterways, Glen Foerd will develop and implement a boat and bike program as the first step towards a full complement of environmental and recreational programs. The dock will be located behind the historic Carriage House. To give everyone the opportunity to experience one of Philadelphia's most beautiful areas along the tidal Delaware River, free community boating days will be offered on select Saturdays.
Glen Foerd is a Fairmount Park property operated by the Glen Foerd Conservation Corporation in cooperation with Philadelphia Parks and Recreation and supported in part by the Philadelphia Cultural Fund. The corporation hopes that this project will be a big step forward in transforming Glen Foerd into one of Philadelphia's great riverfront destinations.
