Urban is pleased to announce that it has been recognized by Bicycling magazine as one of America’s Top Bike-Friendly Workplaces. The firm’s placement on the list – ranking No. 20 out of 25 – will appear in the January/February issue of the publication. Urban is the only company based in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or Delaware to make the list, and is one of only a few to make the list from the East Coast.

“We are honored to have our commitment to cycling to work benefits recognized by a national outlet like Bicycling,” said Kenneth R. Fulmer, Urban’s president and CEO. “Making alternative commuting easier has long been a priority for Urban, and we have seen that the more benefits we provide for cyclists, more of our staff opt to bike to work.”

Headquartered in Philadelphia, Urban provides many amenities for its employees to commute by bike. In addition to a free gym that has showers and changing areas, the firm has a private bike locker area where employees’ bikes and belongings can be left in a secure place away from the elements. There is also an Urban bicycle and helmet that can be signed out and taken for a ride to a local meeting or on a lunch break. The Philadelphia office is conveniently located to most forms of public transportation, and is nearby an Indego bike share location.

“It is important to me that my employer takes my mode of transportation seriously,” says Kate Mundie, an Urban employee and urban cycling enthusiast. “The firm has shown unparalleled support to me and my coworkers who bike to work every day.”

Outside of Philadelphia, Urban's New Jersey office has a gym, and its Erie office has a shower for employees who want to bike, walk, or run to work. All employees of the firm are offered various fitness and wellness incentive programs to stay healthy. Individuals can sign up to participate and need to reach 240 hours of activity per year. They get $240 at the end of the year if they are able to complete the hours. Urban offers a Wellness Program through Viverae where employees can go on and complete webinars, quizzes, and more to earn points. If an employee earns 300 points by the end of the year, they will receive a $100 gift card. The firm offers wellness lunch and learns throughout the year about different wellness related topics.
