The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has awarded Urban a contract for construction inspection and documentation of SR 202, Section 320, in East Whiteland and Tredyffrin Townships, Chester County.

The project includes the following major components:

  • Reconstruct and widen Route 202 to three lanes each direction for 4.2 miles between the Valley Creek Bridge (between Route 29 and Route 401 interchanges) and North Valley Road
  • Construct a two-mile long, barrier-separated, collector-distributor lane northbound beginning at Valley Creek Bridge through the Route 29 Interchange
  • Modify/widen Route 202 bridges over Valley Creek and North Valley Road
  • Modify on and off ramps at the Route 29 Interchange
  • Install concrete median barrier glare screen
  • Construct noise walls at eligible locations
  • Improve stormwater management system

The $105 million project is scheduled for completion in 2014.

According to PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch, PE, the project will “transform an aging and worn stretch of Route 202 into a modern six-lane highway….The importance of Route 202 from a transportation and economic perspective cannot be overstated. Adding a third lane in each direction will dramatically improve rush-hour travel."
