Construction has begun on the $11-million extension of Delaware Avenue from Lewis Street, just south of the Betsy Ross Bridge, to Orthodox Street, north of the Tioga Marine Terminal in Philadelphia, PA.

The project has several benefits for the area, including improving access for waterfront businesses and reducing traffic in adjacent neighborhoods. It will also provide a link in the City’s larger bicycle and walking path network.

Urban provided engineering consulting services for the Philadelphia Department of Streets that involved obtaining environmental clearance and permits, traffic control, and designing a 30-foot roadway, multi-use trail, and new Amtrak catenary tower. A challenging part of the project was designing a new bridge over Frankford Creek. This was tackled successfully by the Department of Streets.
