Urban Engineers (Urban) is managing the $25 million construction effort to renovate 30th Street Station in Philadelphia, PA.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, 30th Street Station is the signature railroad station in Philadelphia. It is Amtrak’s second busiest station, serving as a stop along the Northeast and Keystone Corridors.

The complex project involves rehabilitation of the street-level west plaza and the basement-level parking garage, which is currently occupied by multiple rental car fleets. In addition, Urban will oversee a separate construction contract involving structural steel replacement and painting at the passenger platform level. Construction operations must be staged appropriately to allow for minimal impact to 30th Street Station customers, local traffic, and railway operations. Urban is teaming with JBC Associates and Pennoni.

“Millions of passengers depend on 30th Street Station every year for efficient and safe access to the region’s transportation system. We are proud to have the opportunity to work on a project that is vital to our firm, the City, and the tri-state region,” said Urban’s Director of Transit and Passenger Rail and Vice President, Kenneth Fulmer, PE.

Completion is estimated for June 2014.
