As Vice President and Office Manager, Edward Gannon, PE, PhD manages the strategic pursuits and operations of the State College, Pennsylvania office in addition to being a key member of Urban’s facility engineering and management groups.
Ed has more than 30 years of structural engineering and facility and construction management experience, including most recently serving as the Design Manager for Facilities at Penn State University, for which he managed a staff of about 40 architects, engineers, designers and support staff working on several hundred small and large capital renewal and major maintenance projects. He was also led the university’s BIM and Facility Management efforts, was responsible for obtaining all building permits and variances from Labor and Industry and developing project turnover processes. A structural engineer by training, Gannon leads a group of engineers that design and construct new facilities and excels in major maintenance and capital renewal projects. Because of his work in Lean Construction, IPD and BIM, he is sought after for complex projects, both large and small, requiring a collaborative approach.
When not planning the State College offices next project and living his childhood dream of being a structural engineer, Ed is a dedicated fisherman and shares his love for the sport with his family as they live by the motto ‘if it has gills, I’ll fish for it!’ Aside from fishing, he is actively involved in his community as a coach for youth lacrosse at his local middle and high school and also with the Pennsylvania Special Olympics Summer Games, an event he has volunteered at for over 15 years.
A Registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania, Ed earned his PhD in civil engineering, structures and materials, master’s in civil engineering and structures and bachelor’s in civil engineering from Penn State University.
