Silvia Scheuermann Named a 40 Under 40 Honoree

Silvia Scheuermann included in the Philadelphia Business Journal’s most recent 40 Under 40 class

As a leading team member behind Urban Engineers’ Traffic Operations and Intelligent Transportation Systems on-call contract with the City of Philadelphia, Silvia Scheuermann, PE, has demonstrated her talents. She has made an unmistakable mark in in the city as a traffic engineer through her initiative, intelligence, creativity, and passion. Given these facts, it is no surprise that she was selected by the Philadelphia Business Journal as a 40 Under 40 award winner! The 40 Under 40 program spotlights 40 dynamic up and coming leaders, who are under the age of 40, for their professional accomplishments and community involvement.

Silvia and Urban’s traffic team have worked to help combat congestion and keep traffic flowing throughout Philadelphia by retiming 270 signals along various corridors. This program required a substantial data collection effort. Silvia was instrumental in developing and fine-tuning Urban’s data collection techniques. She also created custom spreadsheets for the city to streamline the process of developing clearance and pedestrian timings. These spreadsheets also facilitated the QA/QC process. All of these innovations enabled Urban to provide the City of Philadelphia with the highest quality product. In addition, Silvia and the team hosted a “Best Practices” meeting with the city and other consultants to discuss the various techniques used and lessons learned to improve the retiming processes across all of their projects.

Philadelphia Business Journal: "What is one word that describes you?"

"Driven, which is appropriate being that I am a traffic engineer!"- Silvia Scheuermann

Silvia volunteers her time for the Intelligent Transportation Society of Pennsylvania (ITSPA), a “go to” organization in Pennsylvania on the engagement, education, and influence of all transportation technology and operational implementations to promote a safer, more mobile, and highly productive state. ITSPA focuses on groups including non-engineers, legislatures, and students to create awareness of the industry and educate them on why transportation is important and affects us all. Silvia’s work with ITSPA assisted the organization in receiving the Outstanding State Chapter Award in 2014, Membership Growth Award in 2015, and Outstanding State Chapter Award in 2016.
